Featured as one of TIME magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places 2024,” Burhan Wilderness Camps is a minimalistic yet luxurious glamping retreat situated in a private micro-conservancy within the Khata Wildlife Corridor, nestled between two pristine channels of the Karnali River. Founded in 2019 by siblings Manoj and Prabha Gautam, Burhan is built on the belief that tourism should heal, not harm.
Set up with a founding principle of ‘leaving no footprint’, we rely minimally on the structures on the land itself. The camp operates on a low-impact, seasonal model with minimum permanent structures: safari tents are pitched only when guests arrive, and a treehouse crafted from reclaimed driftwood blends into the forest canopy. For most of the year, the land is left wild to allow nature to regenerate.
Home to Bengal tigers, rhinos, elephants, and rare birds, Burhan offers immersive, conservation-driven experiences such as safari, bushwalks, wildlife tracking, and cultural exchanges with local communities. Every stay directly supports habitat restoration, anti-poaching efforts, and indigenous knowledge systems. Burhan stands as a model of regenerative tourism, restoring ecosystems, empowering people, and redefining what Responsible travel can be.
